Cosimo Matassa would have turned 99 on Sunday.
The big picture: It's a good reason to remember the legendary music producer who shaped so much of New Orleans' signature rhythm and blues sound.
Zoom in: Matassa got his start selling used records for jukeboxes, according to 64 Parishes.
He saw the demand for new tracks, too, and opened J&M Music Shop on the French Quarter's edge.
Folks like James Booker, Allen Toussaint, Professor Longhair and Fats Domino would record in his studios.
The latest: Junebug, a new late-night dining spot in the CBD, recently opened in one of those spaces, so you can toast to the man himself right where he once stood.
