Jordan LaHaye Fontenot grew up knowing her great-grandfather's body was found floating in a bayou near Mamou, but it wasn't until her 20s that she began asking around for the full story.
Why it matters: The man accused of killing him is serving a life sentence at Angola, but now the "Country Roads" editor digs into the case for herself in a new book out today.
What she says: The story, Fontenot says, "in more ways than one, brought me home."
"Truth hides behind silence, and there is a collective burden in things unspoken," she tells us. "Even if the book can't grant absolute closure, I hope that it does elicit some relief."
If you go: Garden District Books hosts a signing with Fontenot tomorrow.
