The French Quarter has a lovely new courtyard cafe in the form of Patula.
Why it matters: Though businesses in the neighborhood often seem meant for visitors, this one definitely has local appeal.
Zoom in: At Patula's helm is chef Rob Tabon, who Eater New Orleans reports is a Jacksonville, Florida, native with Link Restaurant Group experience on his resume.
The vibe: The space is tucked into the courtyard behind Krewe's Royal Street flagship.
- Guests order at the counter, then grab a table among the lush greenery outside.
Dig in: On a recent visit, I sipped on a glass of rosé while sharing a lightly sweet and coolly creamy onion dip, which was paired with Zapp's chips.
- My favorite, though, was the mushroom toast, which was topped with lemon zest and thinly sliced chives and dill.
- Mine came on a thinly-sliced baguette because the kitchen happened to be out of focaccia, but I'd go back just to try the dish as it was intended.
If you go: The drink menu includes espresso, too, so a stop can be the bridge you might need between the end of a work day and happy hour.
