Second Harvest Food Bank added a new food bank on wheels to its fleet this month.
Why it matters: The mobile market will serve Avondale, Kennedy Heights and Waggaman — three Jefferson Parish communities that haven't had a local grocery store since 2019, the food bank says.
Zoom in: The 32-foot-long trailer will have fresh produce, proteins, dairy and pantry staples at lower-than-grocery store prices, the organization says, and accept payment in cash, credit and EBT.
Meanwhile: Archbishop Gregory Aymond pledged in a letter last week that funds from Second Harvest, which is affiliated with the church, have not and will not go toward its settlements. Read the letter.
