President Trump met with loved ones of the people killed in the New Year's Day terrorist attack during his visit to New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX.
The big picture: Trump went onto the field of the Caesars Superdome around 4:30pm local time and did a meet-and-greet with the families, New Orleans police and emergency personnel.
- They are the honorary coin toss participants for the big game, according to the White House pool report.
What he's saying: "This annual tradition transcends our differences and personifies our shared patriotic values of family, faith and freedom heroically defended by our military service members, law enforcement officers and first responders," Trump said in a statement.

- He was killed during a shoot-out with police. Security was ramped up for the Super Bowl in the aftermath of the attack and then tightened even more when the president announced he would visit.
- More than 2,000 law enforcement officers are patrolling the city, including armed Louisiana National Guardsmen who are staffing security checkpoints on and around Bourbon Street.
