Scrim, legendary New Orleans dog, is back on the lam

Flashback: In what can only be described as the most dogged efforts, the team at Zeus' Rescues first began tracking Scrim about eight months ago.

• The terrier first came to New Orleans by way of Terrebonne Parish. Michelle Cheramie, who owns Zeus' Rescues, picked up Scrim from the animal shelter there and brought him back to be fostered and eventually adopted out, The Times-Picayune reported this summer.
• On his first night at his foster home in Mid-City, Scrim escaped, and what followed was a seven-month-long game of cat and mouse, er, dog and dog-catcher.

Zoom in: Over that time, Scrim was shot twice by bullets and other times by tranquilizer darts, he lost a toenail and chunk of his ear, and evaded capture dozens of times. All the while, Scrim's story went viral, with the entire city rooting for his safe return.

• More than half a year later, Cheramie's team successfully nabbed the scrappy pooch a few weeks ago.
• And in a City Council meeting earlier this month, Cheramie was honored for her dedication. Scrim attended the meeting too, wearing a bow tie — and a GPS tracking collar.

The latest: Scrim chewed his way out of a screen on the second floor of Cheramie's home Friday morning, The Times-Picayune reports.

• From there, a security camera caught sight of the dog launching himself from the window, landing with a bark and a splat on the sidewalk before he bolted out of a hole in the fence.

• By Saturday night, the battery on his GPS tracker had died and Scrim had managed to get himself all the way Uptown near Children's Hospital, Cheramie wrote on Instagram.
