Mahony's Po-Boys has reopened on Magazine Street in New Orleans under new leadership, and that's brought some new energy to the casual Uptown neighborhood standard.
Why it matters: The poboy shop has been around since 2008.
The big picture: Mahony's closed earlier this summer, posting on Facebook that it would reopen soon under new management.
- "Notice to NEW owner, you better not mess this up!!! You're going to be making some iconic poboys," reads one of the replies to the post.
- Luckily, the new owner is Robért LeBlanc, the restaurateur behind local favorites like The Chloe and Sylvain, and neither he nor the team he's assembled seem to have any intention of messing with a good thing.

Dig in: The idea, managing partner Tristan Ferchl said during a Wednesday night preview, is just to dress things up a little.
- Take, for example, the R&R, one of two cocktails Ferchl designed with the hopes that they'll become mainstays at Mahony's bar. With its mix of rye whiskey and root beer, and a dash of Angostura bitters and grenadine, it's a clever nod to the classic New Orleans pairing of a poboy and Barq's.
- Ferchl will also have a John Daly (vodka with a house-made Arnold Palmer) on tap.

The new food menu is focused more tightly on poboys than its predecessor, though I'd go back for more of the vegetarian mushroom boudin balls I sampled this week.
- As for those poboys, Mahony's still has the usual staples like fried seafood and cold cuts, but new options include a White Castle-styled version with diced onions and American cheese, and crispy chicken thighs and a Buffalo pimento cheese.
- My only complaint? The shrimp and sausage I tried just needed hot sauce.
Between the lines: LeBlanc's Mahony's takeover represents a new business strategy as he looks to acquire beloved local brands to both preserve them and create growth opportunities for his staff, he told The Times-Picayune's Ian McNulty.
