Richard Simmons' family will host a public memorial at the St. Louis Cathedral on Oct. 5 to honor the New Orleans native's legacy.
There will be a "Sweatin' to the Oldies"-style workout class in Jackson Square and then a French Quarter second-line before music performances at Bourbon Street's Musical Legends Park, according to WWL.
The big picture: Simmons was raised in the French Quarter and propelled a new generation of Americans into fitness with his positive attitude and good spirit.
When the development and popularity of the VHS tape combined with at-home fitness, thousands were soon working out alongside Simmons as he led them with his characteristic enthusiasm and neon tanks and shorts.
