New Orleans' second-line clubs begin the long parading season Sunday, starting with the Valley of Silent Men Social Aid and Pleasure Club.
Why it matters: The Sunday celebrations are a vibrant part of New Orleans Black culture honoring social aid and pleasure club history.
The big picture: Dozens of clubs second-line on Sunday afternoons through most of the year, taking breaks for Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest and the hottest parts of summer.
They wind through Uptown and downtown neighborhoods, partying in the streets for hours.
The second-lines all have music, dancing, vendors, stylish threads and a jubilant spirit, but each one has its own flair.
Here's the schedule from WWOZ for the next few weeks. The season ends in June 2025.
