Xavier University cheer squad wins national championship

After winning a national title, the Xavier University cheerleading team has a new fan in Gabrielle Union.

What she said: "The real live Clovers!!!!?!?!" Union posted on X, referring to the all-Black cheerleading squad she led in the 2000 movie "Bring It On."

"Why am I crying? For those who aren't familiar with competitive cheer, this is HUGE!! And it's NOT due to a lack of talent," she continued.

The big picture: The National Cheerleaders Association win in the advanced large coed NAIA division is XULA's second national title in five years for its varsity cheer program, according to HBCU Gameday.

The squad made history in 2022 as the first HBCU team to win the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Cheer Championship.
