It's the season of Friday night fish fries, and the Knights of Columbus at St. Ann Church & Shrine in Metairie are doing it up right.
Why it matters: Many Louisianans swap meat for fish on Fridays during Lent, and the church events provide a way to get dinner and socialize.
Driving the news: The Knights of Columbus Council 3465 alternates with the St. Ann Men's Club for providing the weekly meals.
- They average about 300 meals on Fridays, says Mike Gauthier with Knights of Columbus.
What I ordered: Fish plate ($12) with gumbo ($7) and multiple desserts ($1 each).
- The fish plate came with boiled potatoes, corn on the cob and slices of French bread. The gumbo was shrimp and okra.
Zoom in: The fish fry starts at 6pm. There are drive-thru and dine-in options, depending on the week. The menu changes weekly too.
- They also sell beer and wine by the glass if you dine in. Bring cash.
