What to order at MaMou in the French Quarter

Blue cheese is one of those ingredients that can easily overpower everything else in your meal.

  • But the blue cheese Charlotte at MaMou in the French Quarter shows that doesn't have to be true.

What we ordered: The blue cheese Charlotte ($15) is served with beets a la Grecque, tight rounds of butter lettuces and a bit of walnut for the crunch and sweetness.

The dish comes from the plats petit side of the menu at this grounded-in-Louisiana-but-still-very-French restaurant.

  • As the title implies, the inspiration comes from dessert Charlottes, where inside of a small mound of beets, you find a creamy blue cheese.
  • It's a small serving, but enough for a pair to enjoy. My husband and I shared it, along with the unmissable celeriac remoulade and the bread service for starters on a recent date night.

Worth noting: The restaurant opened in 2022, but has already gained a well-earned reputation for excellence.

Pro tip: You might be full at the end of your meal, but the lemon Madeleines are a perfect dessert to share with one or a few people.

  • Or you can keep them all to yourself. No judgement here.
