Almasgoof is serving up delicious Iraqi and Middle Eastern food in a strip mall in Metairie.
What's happening: The restaurant gets its name from the style of cooking fish in a metal basket next to an open fire, owner Mahmoud Alhattab tells Axios.
The pompano ($21.99) cooked this way is a bestseller, and we made sure to leave behind none of the scrumptious meat.
What else we ordered: Homemade Turkish bread to dip in fresh hummus ($7.99) and lentil soup ($4.50).
We also loved the black Iraqi tea cooked in a kettle over a wood fire.
Be smart: There's a great floor seating area you can reserve in advance for groups.
