Meet the Maker: Public Art for Neighborhoods grantees

Driving the news: Indy Arts Council recently announced the final wave of grantees receiving funding in 2024 under the Public Art for Neighborhoods grant program.

• The program pairs artists with neighborhoods to collaborate on arts and culture projects that all residents can enjoy. Grants range from $500 to $5,000.

Andy Fry, Big Car Collaborative and Garfield Park Neighborhood Association

• A project to restore and maintain the "Welcome to Garfield Park" gateway mural on Shelby Street.

Gary Gee and Green Thumb Patrol Community Garden

• A project in the Martindale-Brightwood (Oakhill) area involving youth between the ages of 5 and 20 to participate in creative, garden-focused activities.

Kierra Ready and Ujamaa Community Bookstore at Flanner House

• An eight-week art class series called "Urban Landscapes: Painting Our Communities" tailored for older adults. Participants will reflect on their neighborhoods through storytelling and visual art.

Wildstyle DaProducer and Roots International

• Large-scale photographic artwork that highlights residents of the Riverside neighborhood, focusing on what brings them happiness and how they support one another.
