Carmel honors its latest Olympians in Midtown

The city of Carmel is temporarily renaming four streets in honor of its latest native Olympians.

Driving the news: Monon Boulevard, Elm, First and Second streets in the Midtown area have been named after swimmers Aaron Shackell, Alex Shackell, Drew Kibler and swimming coach Chris Plumb.

Mayor Sue Finkam presented the Shackell siblings and Plumb with their street signs Friday.

Zoom in: Plumb, head swim coach at Carmel High School and Carmel Swim Club, joins Notre Dame's Chris Lindauer as the only other Hoosier selected for the Team USA coaching staff.

At last month's Olympic trials, Aaron Shackell led wire-to-wire in the 400 freestyle to become the first American to qualify for the 2024 Olympics in pool swimming.
Alex Shackell became the first Carmel girls swimmer to make the Olympics with her performance in the 200-meter butterfly.
Kibler is a two-time Olympian who secured his 2024 spot with a third-place finish in the men's 200 freestyle.
