The FIFA World Cup trophy will make a pit stop in Houston before the matches begin.

Why it matters: This is your chance, especially if you didn't score tickets, to be part of the tournament and get close to one of the most recognizable prizes in sports.

Driving the news: The 14.5-inch, 18-karat gold trophy will stop in Houston May 2–3 at Helix Park (1885 Old Spanish Trail) in the Medical Center.

The global tour spanning 30 countries kicked off Jan. 3 in Saudi Arabia. The trophy will arrive in the U.S. on March 24, with stops in 21 cities, including Dallas, Austin and San Antonio, before heading to Houston.

Houston is hosting seven World Cup matches at NRG Stadium this summer.
