Airbnb is investing $1.3 million in Houston ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to expand green infrastructure and boost youth soccer access across the city.
Why it matters: Hosting a big event like the World Cup brings a wave of investment — including projects that may benefit the city long after summer tourism fades.
Driving the news: The money will help build out a new Green Corridor — a 14-mile loop connecting EaDo's FIFA Fan Festival to NRG Stadium, including the Columbia Tap Trail. The trail will get lighting upgrades, seating and even small "mini-pitch" soccer fields along the route.
Funds will also support Grow the Game, an initiative that includes renovating fields in underserved neighborhoods and covering club soccer costs for hundreds of kids.
By the numbers: A Deloitte study commissioned by Airbnb projects that 31,000 guests will stay at Airbnb rentals in Houston during the World Cup, generating an estimated $372 million from their spending.
