Mariachi parades, folklórico dancers and weeks of festivities will fill Houston as the city celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month.
Why it matters: Latino culture drives Houston's identity, with over a million Hispanic residents shaping its business, politics and traditions.
Driving the news: Hispanic Heritage Month is Sept. 15-Oct. 15.
- Celebrations kick off this weekend, with the decadeslong tradition of the Fiestas Patrias International Parade downtown at 10am Saturday. Expect floats, lowriders and energetic school bands.

💃 Children's Museum Houston has a free family night of folklórico on Sept. 18.
🎶 The Houston Symphony is honoring the cultural contributions of Latin American and Hispanic composers at the free annual "Fiesta Sinfónica" on Sept. 26. There will be music from "Carmen," "West Side Story," and more.
🪗 Miller Outdoor Theatre is hosting a couple of free nights of music and dance. Dia de la Hispanidad will be Sept. 27, and the annual Festival Chicano with live conjunto and Mariachi will be on Oct. 2
⚾️ The Astros will celebrate during their series against the Seattle Mariners the weekend of Sept. 19, with a street festival, giveaways and a ceremony honoring Latino and Hispanic players.
⚽️ That same weekend, The Dynamo will host Noche Latina as they play the Portland Timbers. There will be a special halftime performance on Sept. 20.
🎤 There will be more mariachi and folklórico at Discovery Green for its "México en el Corazón" event Sept. 20.
🍽️ Post Houston will host Poder Hispano on Oct. 4, a full-day festival with interactive booths, small business vendors, food tastings and free tango classes.
