Resource to go: Houston Bike Guide

👋 Jay here! I went on BikeHouston's First Sunday Ride yesterday and wanted to share an invaluable resource for Bayou City riders.

Why it matters: Cyclists are mixing up more with car traffic in the city's densest neighborhoods as Mayor John Whitmire continues to question and demolish bike lanes and other safe street infrastructure.

• With that in mind, it's important to have the inside scoop on which roads are bike friendly.

Pedaling the news: Madeleine Pelzel, a cyclist and organizer, led Sunday's ride of about 100 cyclists through Montrose.

The intrigue: Pelzel created and maintains the Houston Bike Guide showing the city's best and most dangerous routes in Google Maps, an impactful wayfinding source strictly for cyclists.

• The map shows specific streets' bikeability, warnings of crossings and which streets to avoid, among other features.
