U.S. immigration authorities have revoked the visas of roughly 90 international students at several Texas universities.
The big picture: The Trump administration has revoked the visas of nearly 400 international students across the country in the last three weeks, linking the effort to the students' alleged involvement in pro-Palestinian protests last year.
State of play: 15 international students at Texas A&M University had their visas revoked recently.
- A&M officials did not identify the students but confirmed in an email that the students were removed from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement monitoring system that tracks students' legal status.
- The students were from the College Station and Galveston campuses and were both undergraduate and graduate students.
- University officials said they are not aware of any political activism by the students whose visas were revoked. At least one of the students has already left the country, per the Texas Tribune.
A&M officials said they have "been in contact with the affected students" and are providing "appropriate information and support."
Context: In recent months, some students, graduates and scholars who protested the war in Gaza were arrested and detained, including the high-profile cases of Mahmoud Khalil, Rumeysa Ozturk and Badar Khan Suri.
- Many have been transferred to detention centers in Louisiana — or Texas in Khan Suri's case, per NPR.
Zoom out: Students at other Texas universities have seen their visas revoked, including 27 at the University of North Texas and 19 at UT Dallas, along with at least three students at Texas Tech and two at the University of Texas.
What we're watching: The revocations are still unfolding as students navigate their next steps.
