The newInternational Central Processor at George Bush Intercontinental Airport features a striking sculptural glass installation.
The big picture: "Coastal Prairie Fiori," inspired by the native flora of Houston's Gulf Coast region, features 537 hand-blown glass pieces suspended over the 17-lane TSA screening area in the new facility.
The artwork was designed by acclaimed American glass artist Dale Chihuly.
Fun fact: Each piece of "Coastal Prairie Fiori" was hand-blown in Seattle, then packaged and transported across the country in two tractor-trailers. Four specialists spent six nights meticulously installing the glass elements.
What's next: The security checkpoint will be fully operational by summer 2025, serving travelers flying out of Terminals D and E.
