All eyes are on the Texans' front office as they finalize the team's 53-man roster Tuesday.
Why it matters: After last season's breakout performance, Houston landed in several top 10 power rankings leading to the upcoming season.
- Who makes Houston's talent-laden roster could make or break the team.
Driving the news: All 32 NFL teams have until 3pm Tuesday to reduce their rosters to 53 players ahead of the start of the regular season.
Flashback: The Texans topped the AFC South last season with a 10-7 record on the back of then-rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans.
- Houston made it to the playoffs and won its Wild Card matchup against the Cleveland Browns but lost to the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round.
Catch up quick: The Texans both made significant moves and honed their in-house talent this offseason.
- Houston will feature more targets for Stroud this year, trading future draft picks for wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills in April and re-signing receiver Nico Collins to a lucrative, three-year contract in May. Tank Dell is also slated to return after he was injured last season.
The intrigue: Houston's starting quarterback spot is locked up with Stroud, who has the grit to make the best of his sophomore season in the NFL.
- Stroud threw for 4,108 yards on 319 completions last season, earning himself the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.
Yes, but: Who backs him up is a different story.
- The current thinking among some NFL analysts is that quarterback Davis Mills, who started for the Texans in 2021 and 2022, will play second string.
- Hometown hero Case Keenum and Tim Boyle are in line for third string, although we won't know for certain until the roster is finalized.
What to watch: Who the Texans ultimately let go.
- Several teams are interested in signing Houston wide receiver John Metchie III, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
What's next: The Texans kick off the regular season Sept. 8 against division rivals the Indianapolis Colts in Indiana.
