Detroit's JW Marriott staffs up for opening

Why it matters: The 601-room riverfront hotel will be the city's first JW Marriott and is directly connected to Huntington Place, giving convention-goers another high-end lodging option downtown.

By the numbers: The 25-story hotel will feature four dining concepts, a luxury spa and more than 53,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

• More than 50 meetings and events are already booked ahead of the opening.

Zoom out: The hotel is rising on the former Joe Louis Arena site along the Detroit River, where its addition to the downtown skyline is increasingly hard to miss.
