We tried downtown Detroit's new Unc's Pizza

👋 Annalise here, reporting back after trying the latest entrant to our Detroit-style pizza scene.
The big picture: Recently opened Unc's Pizza in downtown's Capitol Park serves pies, wings, mozzarella sticks and salads.
- It's owned by a partnership between two other local downtown restaurants: Dime Store and Mootz Pizzeria and Bar.
The vibe: Comfy, as promised, with friendly service and a vibe that's an upscale take on a classic diner.
- Pizzas come with those small, cupped pepperonis that char on the edges — always a highlight.
Dig in: I tried the Pink Room with pepperoni, whipped ricotta, hot honey, banana peppers and red sauce ($20).
- I also had to try Unc's take on mozzarella sticks, the large aged brick sticks ($13) that I saw on social media.
The verdict: Unc's food is tasty and the restaurant is welcoming — no complaints here. I'm just not sure I'd return to it as often as some other Detroit-style spots like Michigan & Trumbull.
