Unc's Pizza opens in downtown Detroit

Another option for Detroit-style pizza has entered the scene.

The big picture: Unc's Pizza opens Tuesday in downtown's Capitol Park.

It's owned by a partnership from two well-known spots — brunch mainstay Dime Store and a local restaurant that serves New York-style pizza, Mootz Pizzeria + Bar.

Zoom in: The creators wanted to make a comfy, nostalgic neighborhood restaurant.

Alongside pizza, the menu includes mozzarella sticks, chicken wings and tenders.

Zoom out: Unc's adds to the city's list of Detroit-style purveyors that also includes Buddy's Pizza downtown, Grandma Bob's in Corktown, Michigan & Trumbull in the Elijah McCoy neighborhood and Niki's Pizza in Greektown. It's also down the street from La Lanterna, an Italian restaurant that serves Neapolitan-style pizza.

If you go: Unc' is at 1133 Griswold St. No reservations.

Hours: 4-11pm Sunday-Thursday and 4pm-midnight Friday and Saturday.
