One of college football's premier jobs is open after U of M fired head football coach Sherrone Moore this week, as the program navigates a still-developing law enforcement situation ahead of the sport's season-ending playoff tournament.

The big picture: Coaching candidates emerged Thursday for the Wolverines, including Alabama's Kalen DeBoer and Jedd Fisch of Washington, as Moore remained in jail.

Flashback: Moore was hired as U of M's 21st football coach in January 2024 after Jim Harbaugh led the Wolverines to a national championship and left the school to coach the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers.
