Andiamo Italian Chophouse to open on former Joe Louis site

Catch up quick: The 600-room, 25-story hotel will be attached to downtown's Huntington Place convention center by a pedestrian skybridge.

• A new high-end apartment tower, the Residences at Water Square, opened last year on the site.

Between the lines: Other Andiamo chophouse locations are in Las Vegas, Clinton Township and Fenton.

• The Andiamo location at Water Square will seat 200 indoors and also feature outdoor riverwalk seating in warmer months.

The intrigue: An Andiamo riverfront location is among the restaurant offerings at the Renaissance Center — the increasingly obsolete office complex that's slated for redevelopment — where some food options have closed in recent years like Salsarita's and Potbelly.

• That Andiamo is expected to close at an unknown date. The new one at JW Marriott will have some of the same dishes, but won't be the same restaurant.
• It was previously reported by Crain's that the Vicari group has been looking for new homes for its Andiamo and Joe Muer Seafood restaurants in the RenCen.
