Detroit's Office of Sustainability is testing out a composting program, funded by a $100,000 grant from Carhartt.
How it works: Detroit residents can sign up using this form to participate in the pilot program that starts Aug. 21. The first 200 get a free composting bucket.
Participants will drop off their compost, including produce scraps, eggshells, small bones, plate scrapings and napkins, at the Detroit People's Food Co-op.
More information will be shared with those who sign up.
The big picture: City-run compost drop-off and curbside programs are rare, though private ones are becoming more pervasive.
