Hudson's Detroit is open — for events

Dan Gilbert's Bedrock just opened what's likely to be among the most sought-after event spaces in Detroit.

The big picture: The Department, as it's called, is part of the smaller base building in the two-building Hudson's development. At 56,000 square feet and three floors, it can fit up to 2,000 people and is booking for events from conferences to fashion shows, weddings and film premieres.

It'll operate with an exclusive food and drink provider, Forte Belanger.
Late last month, it hosted Mayor Mike Duggan's State of the City address.

The intrigue: If you're wondering, yes, the Department's name is a nod to the former Hudson's department store that used to sit on the site.
