State of the City speech gives look at Hudson's Detroit

Tuesday's State of the City speech provided a peek at the yet-unfinished, $1.4 billion Hudson's Detroit development.
Catch up quick: The long-delayed megaproject that broke ground in 2017 is expected to finish by the end of this year, according to the Free Press.
- It comprises two buildings. The shorter is a 12-story block with shopping, dining, event and office space — including future tenant GM.
- The tower is 685 feet tall, with high-end housing, outdoor terrace space, food and drink options, event venues and an Edition hotel planned.
Annalise's thought bubble: I'm by no means an architectural expert, but the spaces State of the City attendees saw on the first and second floors of the shorter block building were expansive and full of windows — and smelled particularly nice.
- We entered from the east side, away from Woodward Avenue, through what looked like a construction entrance with guardrails. But the space inside felt finished, no hard hats required.
- Overall, the space's vibe was: normal conference center.
