O.W.L. gets late night right

Hey, it's Sam. Of all of Metro Detroit's open-late kitchens, Royal Oak's O.W.L. is the one I hear about the most.

  • I finally went last weekend after a long night out to find out for myself.

State of play: Me and three other hungry mouths walked into the Mexican-American diner, ordered at around 12:15am and were served 15 minutes later.

  • The place was packed but we were able to dine in while others ordered takeout.
  • I got the bacon cheeseburger ($13) and a side of cilantro potatoes ($5). The burger was fat and juicy, and the potatoes were crispy with splashes of citrus.

What to try: Next time, I'm getting this sausage, poblano pepper and potato hash ($12) that my friend ordered, because look at this:
