Bonchon opens its first Iowa location near Jordan Creek

What it is: The star is the Korean fried chicken, but there's lots of other Korean entrees and street foods, like bao buns ($12.95), tteokbokki ($13.95) and bibimbap ($14.95+).

What I liked: The wings were nice and crispy (6 for $9), but oddly enough, the big standout for me was the fried zucchini side ($7).

• Milder than fried pickles, the crisp, thin breading plus the crunchy zucchini made these so craveable.

The big picture: Bonchon is a solid addition to the metro's already delicious swath of Korean fried chicken restaurants.

• I like Chikin-Lickin in Waukee for their huge variety of sauces, and Basic Bird for their creativity and homemade cabbage kimchi.

If you go: 11am-9pm, Sunday-Thursday; 11am-10pm, Friday-Saturday.
