DSM to join No Kings protest and Palm Sunday march

Organizers across the U.S. are planning more than 3,000 local events Saturday for No Kings Day of Nonviolent Action.

The big picture: Progressive political groups, labor unions and human and civil rights organizations expect Saturday's nationwide demonstrations to surpass last year's No Kings rallies in June and October.

Immigration will certainly be a rallying cry for many protesters, as well as the Trump administration's aggressive deportation campaign this year.

Zoom in: Protests are planned across the state, including in Des Moines at the Capitol from noon to 2pm.

What's next: On Sunday, Interfaith Alliance of Iowa is holding a Palm Sunday march from Capitol Hill Lutheran Church to the state Capitol.

The march focuses on standing against "authoritarianism" and encourages Christians to "stand with our neighbors," per event details.
