Des Moines Botanical Garden's "death bloom" is about to pop

A "death bloom" is popping out at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden just in time for the launch of its October "BOOtanical" events.

Zoom in: One of the garden's Blue Glow agaves is about to start its grand finale with a towering bloom that can reach over 10 feet tall.

The intrigue: The plant, which grows for about a decade, generally dies after it flowers.

State of play: The bloom should last through the month of October.
