A spooky new name

The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden is rebranding itself as the "BOOtanical Garden" for 31 days of eerie, plant-powered fun this October.

Why it matters: It's not every day you get to stroll through a conservatory where the orchids may be haunted and the succulents wear spiderwebs.

Zoom in: "Trick or Trees," a kids class on carnivorous plants and a 21+ happy hour are among the offerings.

• Plus, tickets for any special events can be used to get a free BOGO pint at the Iowa Taproom.
