A second Army Post Road roundabout is in the works

Catch up quick: The first roundabout at Southeast 36th Street and Army Post Road started construction earlier this year and is part of a broader vision to modernize the corridor and prepare for new development.

The details: The upcoming phase would expand Army Post from two to three lanes and fill in sidewalk gaps between Southeast 14th Street and Indianola Avenue.

• The roundabout would be constructed just east of that stretch at the intersection of Three Lakes Parkway, about a mile from the one that remains under construction.

Stunning stat: A 2022 traffic study had identified more than 200 crashes in five years along the corridor.

What's next: If approved, construction would be expected to begin in 2027, following the design work and additional council approvals.
