Hinterland offers ticket refunds if temperatures reach 90 degrees

Hinterland is showcasing a star-studded lineup this year and a new heat policy — if it's predicted to reach 90° on your attendance day, you can get your money back.

Why it matters: "The 10 hottest years on record have all occurred in the past decade. At Hinterland, we are committed to raising awareness about climate change and its impact on our daily lives," according to the festival's new "90 degree guarantee" policy.

State of play: The St. Charles music festival has blown up in popularity in recent years and went viral on TikTok as one of the "best festival lineups in a town of 600 people."

But it's also faced criticism due to overcrowding and a lack of water during the peak of Iowa's hottest temperatures, typically reaching over 100° heat index.

The intrigue: Tyler the Creator, Kasey Musgraves and Lana Del Rey are headlining this year.

The big picture: The Midwest is dealing with intensifying heat that's only expected to worsen due to climate change.

There's an emerging "extreme heat belt" in the center of the country with heat index values reaching 110-115°F stretching from Texas to Iowa.
