Caitlin Clark was selected as the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft by the Indiana Fever last night.

State of play: The selection is no surprise as the former Iowa guard garnered national attention for the "Caitlin Clark effect," writes Axios' Sareen Habeshian.

  • Indiana's pick has already caused an uptick in Fever interest and ticket prices, per ESPN.
  • Meanwhile, Iowa's Kate Martin was selected by the Las Vegas Aces in the second round of the draft.

💬 Our thought bubble: If this basketball thang doesn't work out, Clark could probably land a regular gig on "Saturday Night Live."
