Vice President JD Vance cancels Denver event

Vice President JD Vance canceled his scheduled visit to Denver on Thursday, without offering a reason for the change.

Why it matters: The high-profile visit would have been a rare stop for a top Republican leader in solid-blue Colorado.

Driving the news: Vance planned to speak at All Trucks and Trailer Parts (1350 W. 62nd Parkway) at 12:30pm, according to an invite posted on Facebook and confirmed by the chair of the Denver Republican Party.

The Denver event would have followed Vance's appearance in Colorado Springs for the AFA graduation at Falcon Stadium.

The latest: The Denver GOP posted an update late in the afternoon saying the visit wouldn't happen.

The party gave no explanation for the scheduling change.

Catch up quick: Vance recently drew attention for suggesting that former Mesa County clerk Tina Peters should receive compensation from the Trump administration's new "anti-weaponization" fund.

Peters, a prominent election denier, was convicted and sentenced last year to nine years in prison for her role in a voting-system security breach tied to the 2020 vote.
Democratic Gov. Jared Polis commuted her sentence on May 15. She is set to be released June 1.
