The first six episodes of Netflix's latest "Love Is Blind" season — filmed in Denver — starts streaming Wednesday.
Why it matters: The show puts Denver's dismal dating scene in the global spotlight.
What they're saying: We chatted with a few Season 9 participants — Ali Lima, Jordan Keltner, Blake Anderson, Kalybriah Haskin and Madison Maidenberg— last week in Los Angeles to get an insider's look at their time on the show.
Editor's note: Responses have been edited lightly for length and clarity.
Describe Denver's dating scene with three words or fewer.
Jordan: "Not very good."
Kalybriah: "Horrific."
Madison: "Evasive."
Ali: "Man-child."
Zoom in: "I was a part of the problem," Jordan admits. "I was not dating with intention. I think I was projecting my own personal insecurities, which obviously is not what you want to be doing if you're trying to get into a serious, committed relationship."
What's good about being single in Denver?
Ali: "Denver is kind of a melting pot of people moving from a bunch of different states. So in that sense, you get to meet people from all sorts of backgrounds."
Madison: "There are a lot of single girls in Denver, so there are opportunities to make good girlfriends."
What trends have you noticed in Denver's dating scene?
Blake: "With the number of young professionals moving in and out of Denver, it can make long-term dating a little bit tricky."
Jordan: "It's pretty rough. It seems like Denver is just a pit stop for people. Anyone I've ever been remotely interested in was taken or off limits, so it was just kind of a lot of window shopping."
What made you say yes to going on "Love Is Blind?"
Kalybriah: "I needed to do something different; what I tried in the past hadn't worked."
Blake: "Going in, I thought, 'The odds aren't in your favor of coming out of the pods with someone, but the chance is greater than zero, and if you have that opportunity, why not give it a shot?'"
Madison: "I have a blinding eye condition called retinitis pigmentosa, so there is a chance that I will actually lose my vision at some point in my life.
- "This was my one shot to see if there's somebody out there that can stimulate my brain outside of physicality and really kind of get a sense for what that could be like later in life."
What is your ideal date in Denver?
Jordan: "1Up Arcade Bar (the downtown location). Very affordable, good drinks."
Blake: "I'm a sucker for coffee and a walk on Saturday [or] Sunday morning and going to one of the parks. We have a lot of great parks in Denver."
Kalybriah: "Floor seats at a Nuggets game or even the Broncos. I just love sports. I'm down whether it's football, basketball, even hockey."
Madison: "Rose & Thorn in RiNo or Forget Me Not in Cherry Creek."
Ali: "I love a good speakeasy, anything that's more intimate."
