Denver's pro women's soccer announces name and crest

• The name was chosen after a fan vote that generated more than 15,00 votes and suggestions, per a statement from the club. "Summit" was the overwhelming favorite.

Context: Voting started in February, a month after the team was introduced as the NWSL's 16th franchise.

The intrigue: City leaders in May approved using $70 million to buy and prepare land to build a new 14,500-seat stadium for the club, despite reservations from elected officials.

• The club will play its home games in its inaugural season next year in Centennial, though the new stadium is expected to open in spring 2028.
