Data: Colorado Attorney General's Office; Chart: John Frank/Axios
Consumer complaints in Colorado reached an all-time high in 2023, driven upward by increasing frustration with sales and services.
By the numbers: The Attorney General's Office recorded 20,390 complaints — up 14% and topping the 20,000 mark for the first time.
Unauthorized memberships and subscriptions, as well as cancellation and service issues related to retail sales, topped the list.
Disputes related to professional services and auto sales landed at second and third, respectively.
What they're saying: "The painful reality is too many businesses are cutting corners, putting unfair burdens on consumers, and engaging in deceptive practices," Attorney General Phil Weiser said in a statement.
The intrigue: The complaint list hews closely to prioryears, but troubles with travel and government services are down.
