America's 250th birthday calls for cake. If you're gathering ingredients, the Ohio State Fair has the butter covered.
Zoom in: This year's butter cow and calf celebrate the U.S. semiquincentennial, with a butter bald eagle, flags and Statue of Liberty set against a backdrop of fireworks.
- The patriotic display took a five-person team of artists 400 hours to sculpt.
- It's made of 2,100 pounds of butter on wood and steel frames.
What they're saying: "As America celebrates 250 years, Ohio's dairy farm families are proud to join in honoring the people, industries and traditions that have shaped our nation," American Dairy Association Mideast spokesperson Jenny Crabtree said in a statement.
- "For generations, dairy farm families have been part of that story, working every day to nourish our communities while caring for their cows and the land."
Pro tip: The Dairy Building housing the display is now air-conditioned, among other renovations. No more melted ice cream!
- A new flavor, "Star Spangled Swirl," will debut — a "creamy take on the classic rocket pop, featuring tart cherry, zesty lime and sweet blue raspberry."
