This cold, wintry weekend is perfect for cozying up — but it's also when cabin fever can start to creep in.
Why it matters: The slow, sad part of Ohio winter has arrived.
Yes, but: A day trip or weekend getaway can offer both a low-key change of scenery and some relaxation.
Our ideas, including approximate distance from downtown Columbus:
🧖 Chill overnight at a spa:
- Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls: A Hocking Hills oasis with several nearby lodging options and easy access to trails. (1 hour, 10 minutes)
- Belamere Suites: While technically not a spa, a room with a private heated indoor pool sounds serene. The Salt Cave of Perrysburg is just down the road. (2 hours, 15 minutes)
- Gervasi Vineyard: A Tuscan-inspired, all-in-one winery, spa and resort in Canton. (2 hours, 10 minutes)
- Blennerhassett Hotel and Spa: A historic spot just over the West Virginia border. (2 hours)
🏠 Book a unique, secluded spot on Airbnb:
- Glamp at the geometric Sycamore Dome in Amish Country (1 hour, 45 minutes) or a yurt near Buckeye Lake with a private sauna. (40 minutes)
- Rest at a quaint log cabin in the woods in Urbana. (55 minutes)
- Get comfy at an Athens cabin near Strouds Run State Park. (1 hour, 15 minutes)
🖼️ Stay warm and wind your way through a museum:
- Cleveland: Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, "A Christmas Story" house, Museum of Art (free) and Museum of Natural History. (2 hours, 15 minutes)
- Cincinnati: National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (free every third Sunday), Museum Center, Art Museum (free) and American Sign Museum. (1 hour, 40 minutes)
- Canton: Pro Football Hall of Fame. (2 hours)
- Dayton: National Museum of the U.S. Air Force (free). (1 hour, 5 minutes)
- Mansfield: Ohio State Reformatory and BibleWalk. (1 hour, 10 minutes)
