Columbus, Cleveland in the 2031 Women's World Cup mix

The 2026 men's World Cup isn't the only major soccer tournament on Columbus' radar.

Driving the news: U.S. Soccer submitted a joint bid last week to host the 2031 Women's World Cup and Columbus is on the list of potential host cities.

• The Costa Rican, Jamaican and Mexican federations are part of the bid, which was the only one for 2031 submitted before the Nov. 28 deadline.

Why it matters: The Women's World Cup will be a major draw and could help bolster Columbus' efforts to become the "capital for women's sports."
