Central Ohio has no shortage of build-your-own-bowl spots, but east siders will want to add another to their rotations: honeygrow.
Stir-frying the news: The expanding Philadelphia-based chain recently opened its first local restaurant just north of Gahanna, serving stir-fry, salad and desserts.
- The name is a play on the phrase "honest eating + growing local."
How it works: Select a premade option or create your own from tons of vegetables, sauces, and proteins like steak, bacon, shrimp and tofu. All ordering is on touch screens.
- It's as healthy (or not) as you want it to be, founder Justin Rosenberg told Restaurant Business.
What I ate: A premade garlic butter shrimp noodle bowl with egg ($15) — hot, fresh and surprisingly high-quality for a fast-casual spot.
- I wish I lived closer, because there are countless combinations that all sound delicious.
Best bites: After enjoying some healthy vegetables, I indulged guilt-free in the "honeybar," a build-your-own dessert cup (and yes, honey is a topping option).
- The seasonal chocolate mousse topped with fruit, streusel crumble and whipped cream ($8) is phenomenal and rich.
🤷♀️ The bottom line: Maybe I'll try the "healthy" approach next time.
