👋 Andrew here, with good news: You can still find good, cheap tacos in Columbus.
The craving: Sometimes you just want tasty little tortillas filled with meat, onions and cilantro — and you'll find them at Taqueria Las Bonitas.
What to expect: There's a (fair) perception that the best tacos come from food trucks and hole-in-the-wall establishments. But these are in a former Chipotle, next to a bar and a movie theater north of Worthington.
- They haven't added many frills. You'll recognize the layout and stainless steel surfaces.
Yes, but: You don't want frills, you want cheap tacos.
Dig in: The Las Bonitas menu is bigger than you might expect, with tostadas, quesadillas, tortas, burritos and pupusas that are featured front and center.
- But for me, it's hard to get past the $3 Mexican tacos — carnitas, steak, chicken, chorizo or al pastor.
- Their fresh chips and salsa (also $3) are excellent, too.
The bottom line: Not every restaurant has to be a costly culinary triumph aiming for perfect service and innovative dishes.
- A good, cheap taco is a feat of its own.
