Pete Buttigieg City Club event sold out

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg will speak before a sold-out crowd Monday at the Mimi Ohio Theatre in a featured event hosted by the City Club of Cleveland.
Why it matters: Buttigieg, the first openly gay person to serve in a presidential Cabinet, is already among the top names put forward by national pundits as a Democratic presidential nominee in 2028.
State of play: Buttigieg this week appeared in South Bend, Indiana — where he served as mayor from 2012 to 2020 — to tout the Biden administration's creation of jobs in the Midwest.
- He is likely to touch on "the pipeline of good-paying jobs created by the infrastructure law" in Cleveland as well, the DOT says in a press release.
Yes, but: As with many other City Club forums, the Buttigieg event will be moderated.
- He'll appear alongside Cleveland planning director Joyce Pan Huang, who last month announced she would become the Cleveland Foundation's first chief impact officer.
Between the lines: One of Huang's major efforts in her tenure with the city has been the North Coast master plan, which includes a land bridge connecting downtown to the lakefront.
- In October, Cleveland received a $60 million grant from Buttigieg's DOT for the first phase of that project, transforming the Shoreway into a pedestrian-friendly boulevard.
Flashback: Buttigieg appeared at the City Club once previously, in 2019, to publicize his mayoral memoir "Shortest Way Home."
- He announced his (ultimately unsuccessful) presidential candidacy two months later.
Reality check: Though the 1,000-seat capacity venue is sold out, a free livestream will begin at 5pm Monday.
