RTA leases land for new Greyhound station near Brookpark Rapid stop

• The move comes after the historic Greyhound terminal on Chester Avenue was sold to the Playhouse Square Foundation in April.

The big picture: The Brookpark-based Barons is Greyhound's local partner, and they plan to sublease the station to Greyhound once constructed.

By the numbers: Under the terms of the 10-year lease agreement approved Nov. 19, Barons will pay RTA annual rent that begins at $12,000 in 2025 and progresses to $15,000 by 2034.

• Two five-year options on the lease could extend the agreement through 2044.
• The lease revenue will help pay for the Brookpark Rapid Station's operating costs.

Zoom in: A packet of documents presented to the RTA board did not include renderings of a proposed building design on the site.

• RTA spokesman Robert Fleig confirmed to Axios that there is no anticipated construction start date yet.

What's next: As for the historic station on Chester, Playhouse Square CEO Craig Hassall has said he wants to develop the area as a local version of New York's Times Square, where pedestrians can "graze" from one activity to another.

• The old station may include a bar, restaurant or performance space.
