Just one month after launching a direct route from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to Montego Bay, Jamaica, Frontier Airlines is pulling the plug.

State of play: The Montego Bay route was one of many Frontier announced this year as the low-budget airline opened its new crew base in Cleveland and Hopkins traveler traffic returned to roughly pre-pandemic levels.

Zoom in: Frontier says it has been monitoring consumer demand closely since it launched the Jamaica route in March, especially in light of a U.S. travel advisory, which suggests Americans reconsider travel to Jamaica due to crime and medical services.

What they're saying: "Unfortunately, the demand has not proven sufficient to continue the route for the full summer season," a Frontier spokesperson told Axios in a statement.

  • "We will continue to evaluate market conditions going forward."

What's next: The last flight to Montego Bay will be June 29.

Yes, but: Despite the route cancellation, Frontier still plans to launch 10 new direct routes to U.S. destinations beginning next month.
